Book is penciled in for release in spring 2009. Haskell will write it with scribe David Rensin, who connected with Haskell while researching and writing his 2003 best-seller “The Mailroom: Hollywood History from the Bottom Up.” Ballantine senior editor Susan Mercandetti is handling the project for the publisher.
Born and raised in Mississippi, Haskell made the trek to Hollywood after college and quickly took to the tenpercentery biz, ascending the ranks to head of worldwide TV during his 26 years at WMA. He’s well-known in the biz as a Southern gentleman and highly principled dealmaker.
Since exiting WMA in late 2004, Haskell has served as chairman of Miss America Organization and prexy of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. He’s also been heavily involved in raising money for Hurricane Katrina victims, serving as exec producer of the MSNBC special “Mississippi Rising,” which brought in $15 million.
