The pair will play bickering backup soul singers who haven't spoken in 20 years but reluctantly travel cross country together for a tribute concert to honor their famous former band leader.
Jackson and Mac will do their own musical and dancing performances for the film, which will begin production on Jan. 21. Script was written by Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone, the team behind comedies "Intolerable Cruelty," "Life" and "Man of the House."
David Friendly is producing with Steven Greener, and they will be joined by Charles Castaldi, Lee's producing partner.
Lee, who directed "The Best Man," "Undercover Brother" and "Roll Bounce," most recently completed "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins," a comedy Lee also wrote; Martin Lawrence and Cedric the Entertainer star. Universal will release the pic in February.
