Bonnaire, Ganz make 'Chess' moves

In the French-German co-production “Joueuse” (The Chess Player), Bonnaire plays a hotel chambermaid who develops an obsession for chess. Bottaro penned drama “C’est la vie,” which also featured Bonnaire.
Pic, which is being produced by Paris-based Mon Voisin Production and German unit Blueprint Film, has received some $700,000 in production aid from the German-French Film Funding Commission.
The org in its latest session has allocated $2 million to three pics.
It also slated $700,000 to Gaspar Noe’s “Enter the Void,” which is being produced by Germany’s Essential Filmproduktion and France’s Fidelite.
The third project given coin is “Unter Bauern” (Among Peasants), which will be helmed by Ludi Boeken. Pic, which adapts the autobiography of Marga Spiegel, depicts the persecution and courage of civilians during World War II.
Pic is being produced by German shingle FilmForm and France’s Acajou Films. It had earlier been awarded $1.4 million by Filmstiftung North Rhine Westphalia.
Separately, Filmstiftung announced that it has allocated some $2 million to Stephen Daldry’s “The Reader,” and that the project will film in North Rhine Westphalia. Lensing for the Nicole Kidman starrer so far has taken place in Berlin and other eastern German locations.
