QED pacts with Primary Wave

Comapny to handle marketing of music rights

Indie production shingle QED Intl. has struck a deal to let Primary Wave Music Publishing handle the marketing and administration of its music rights.

Under the pact, Primary Wave will offer music consulting to QED, as well as handle the music publishing rights for the company's film and TV work.

"As part of this strategic agreement, we will provide QED with our knowledge and expertise of the music publishing arena and identify opportunities to expand the reach and further enhance the value of their music publishing assets," said Primary Wave chairman-CEO Larry Mestel.

Primary Wave recently sealed a similar deal with Reveille, which is looking to make money on original compositions, such as theme songs that appear in TV programs.

Like Reveille, QED Intl. is looking to "exploit the opportunities stemming from our film and television projects," CEO Bill Block said.

Deal comes a few weeks after QED launched its inhouse QED TV arm and also helped launch and finance Manolin Entertainment, a new TV entity launched by Cal Boyington.

QED's upcoming feature film output includes the sci-fi entry "District 9," from producer Peter Jackson, and Richard Gere-Terrence Howard starrer "The Hunting Party."
