Biggest award of $400,000 goes to Optimum Releasing for its release of Sarah Gavron’s “Brick Lane,” the adaptation of Monica Ali’s best-selling novel about the experiences of a Bangladeshi woman who moves to London. Pic’s release on Nov. 16 was widened to 90 screens using both 35mm prints and digital copies thanks to extra P&A coin.
Lionsgate U.K. (“Children of Glory”), Yume Pictures (“KM31”), Little Bird (“Shot in Bombay”), Soda Pictures (“Drawing Restraint 9”) and Vertigo Films (“In the Shadow of the Moon”) each received $10,000 toward the cost of the theatrical release of their respective titles.
The British Film Institute received just under $10,000 for its re-release of 1958 Hammer horror classic “Dracula.” Pic, starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, was released for one night only on Halloween across 68 screens nationwide using the UKFC’s Digital Screen Network.
