Korda ups ante in Central Europe

Pact with Colorfront adds to appeal

Two state-of-the-art Hungarian film facilities, the $135 million Korda Studios and digital post-production house Colorfast, have forged a strategic alliance that could alter the dynamic of Central European production.

Clients at Korda, just west of the Hungarian capital, will have access to Budapest-based Colorfront’s high-tech services.

Friday’s deal increases the viability of Korda Studios, majority owned by Hungarian entrepreneur Sandor Demjan. Opening its doors earlier this year, it is one of the most technically sophisticated studios in Central Europe. Colorfront is owned by brothers Mark and Aron Jaszberenyi.

Announcement is a shot across the bow of Barrandov Studios near Prague, in the Czech Republic.

Korda Studios managing director Laszlo Krisan hopes that the services provided at Korda and Colorfront plus 20% tax breaks to filmmakers will make Hungary a popular alternative for foreign producers.
