SPC takes 'King of England'

Menzel pic is Czech Oscar entry

BERLIN — Sony Pictures Classics has picked up North American rights to Jiri Menzel's “I Served the King of England.”

Pic has already sold to 47 countries, including the U.K., where it will be distributed by Arrow Films, and Australia and New Zealand, where it will be released by Rialto Distribution.

Sony Pictures Classics acquired the film at the AFM from Munich-based Bavaria Film Intl., which is handling international sales.

“I Served the King of England” is the Czech Republic's candidate for foreign-language Oscar nomination.
