Kudo, created in memory of the late former CTG chairman of the board, lauds emerging theater artists in Los Angeles and is awarded in the spring and fall of each year. Garrett was selected for his ecologically conscious approach to theater.
Currently earning his MFA in both producing and lighting design at CalArts, Garrett has worked with theater companies in L.A. to create socially and ecologically responsible production systems.
The award includes a $10,000 grant, half of which must be used to cultivate a relationship between the recipient and CTG. Garrett plans to use a portion of his grant to fund research and the incorporation of ecologically sound theater practices at CTG.
Center Theater Group a.d. Michael Ritchie presented the kudo to Garrett, along with spring 2007 recipient Ameenah Kaplan, at the L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards at the Orpheum on Nov. 12.
