Peacock announced the Jackson-produced project as "World Moves," unveiling it to advertisers at its May upfront presentation. New management regime headed by Ben Silverman decided not to move forward with the idea, allowing MTV to come in to redevelop it.
Basic premise of the show -- a sort of hip-hop "So You Think You Can Dance?" -- remains: Dance "crews" of five to seven members come to Los Angeles to compete against each other. Viewers will pick the ultimate winner, with live performance shows sending home one team each week.
MTV plans to air "Dance" crew in the first quarter of next year, which would put the show on the air at the same time Fox is airing "American Idol." While Jackson is exec producing "Dance," he hasn't been announced as a judge for the project.
In addition to Jackson, other exec producers on "Dance" include Rob Lee of Bayonne Entertainment, Howard and Karen Schwartz of Hip Hop Intl., Joel Gallen of Tenth Planet Prods. and Harriet Sternberg of Dream Merchant 21.
Warner Horizon Television is producing.
