Martin McDonagh’s first feature, "In Bruges," will open the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 17. The film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hit men forced to take a vacation in Bruges, Belgium.

Focus will release the pic, produced by Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin, on Feb. 8.

"In many ways 'In Bruges' is a quintessential Sundance film -- it's brutal, philosophical, funny and totally original," said Sundance fest director Geoffrey Gilmore.

"No filmmaker I know has made the English language, in all its profane -- and here, quite Celtic -- glory, such a purely, joyously cinematic medium," said James Schamus, CEO of Focus Features.

As a playwright, McDonaghwon Olivier Awards for "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" and "The Pillowman" as well as Tony noms for "The Lieutenant of Inishmore," "The Pillowman," "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" and "The Lonesome West."

He won the 2006 Oscar for live-action short for his first film, "Six Shooter."
