Magnolia nabs 'Romulus, My Father'

Film marks Richard Roxburgh's directing debut

Magnolia pictures has picked up Australian producer Arclight Films' "Romulus, My Father," the directing debut of actor Richard Roxburgh. "We first saw it in Toronto," said Magnolia prexy Eamonn Bowles. "Eric Bana is a great actor and this was a great performance from him; I think people will respond to it very strongly."

"Munich" thesp and former "Hulk" Bana costars with "Bourne" love interest Franka Potente in the film, based on a book by Raimond Gaita. The screenplay, written by Nick Drake, follows the efforts of two European immigrants to rural Oz trying to bring up their 9-year-old son in the 1960's.

The film received 16 nods at the Australian Film Awards and has been sold in a number of foreign markets, including Canada, Italy, and Germany.

Magnolia will offer the film on HDNet Ultra VOD, which gives viewers access to the film before its theatrical release date. HDNet, HDNet Movies and Magnolia are all co-owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban's Wagner/Cuban Companies.
