Variety called "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" "relentlessly juvenile and awash in stereoptypes" -- and that was one of the nicer reviews.

It might be fair to say, then, that the fact that "Chuck and Larry" went on to gross more than $180 million globally is testament to Sandler's star power. In fact, the film's domestic July opening night ranked above "Hairspray" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Sandler is set to reteam with "Chuck and Larry" helmer Dennis Dugan in "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" in 2008. The actor co-scripted the film with Judd Apatow and Robert Smigel. He also headlines/co-produces "Bedtime Stories," a Disney movie directed by Adam Shankman ("Hairspray").

Point of view

"He's not just an actor -- he's a writer, producer, he's completely hands-on in every department in a very, very, very positive and good way," notes Dugan. "He has a very clear vision of what he wants to do with each project."
