Oz kids to get their own TV channel
Television Foundation wins battle
Government announced Nov. 12 it will give pubcaster the ABC $82 million ($74 million) to create the channel, which will broadcast for 15 hours a day. Half the coin will be put towards content.
"Until now, there has been no regular, consistent broadcast platform that gives children ready access to Australian stories," said ACTF topper Jenny Buckland. "The trend around the world has been for children to turn to dedicated children's channels and, until now, this has meant that Australian children have largely been watching TV programs and films created by international entertainment companies."
