Alcon's under 'Magic' spell

Entertainment co. purchases supernatural script

Alcon Entertainment has snapped up tyro scribe Adam Torchia's spec script "Strange Magic."

Actioner centers on a supernatural crime fighter battling the occult in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans.

Alcon's Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce. Steven Wegner and Dave Brown of Sleeping Giant Entertainment will exec produce. Alcon's Jesse Israel brought the project into the company.

Alcon's next release is the Hilary Swank-Gerard Butler romantic comedy "P.S. I Love You," directed by Richard LaGravenese and scheduled to bow Dec. 21 via Warner Bros. Other upcoming releases include "One Missed Call" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2."

Torchia is an assistant story editor at Universal Pictures.
