SvT, TV4 team for Joost

Due to distribute programs on TV website

Swedish Television (SvT) and pubcaster TV4 will start distributing programs through TV website Joost within the next month.

Mattias Fyrenius, TV4’s head of new media, said the content will be limited at first due to copyright issues. SvT plans to show documentaries and other fact-based programming.

The success of the service will be evaluated next year.

Commercial channels TV3 and TV5 are more hesitant to take the leap online.

“It’s an economic question,” TV3 CEO Hasse Breiotholz said. “The viewers who watch our programs on TV are of more value to our advertisers than those who watch them through the Internet.”

Meanwhile, SvT has upped Stefan Baron to head of drama, based in Stockholm, replacing Daniel Alfredson.

Baron has worked at SvT for many years, most recently as head of sports and light entertainment.
