Magnet nabs rights to 'Eden Log'

Magnolia Pictures' genre unit scores horror epic

Magnet, the newly launched genre arm of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner's Magnolia Pictures, has bought North American rights to Franck Vestiel's sci-fi/horror epic "Eden Log."

A foreign teaser trailer whipped up geek enthusiasm online late in the summer. The pic's plot concerns a man who wakes up in total darkness at the bottom of a cave, unaware of how he got there. While pursued by a scary creature, the man tries to climb back to the Earth's surface through a cemetery-like maze abandoned by a mysterious corporation called Eden Log.

The pic is currently in post-production.

"France has always been at the forefront of quality genre films and this will rank up there with the best of them," said Magnolia senior VP Tom Quinn.

A North American theatrical release is planned in 2008. Among the many territories pre-sold are Japan, Korea, the U.K., Germany and Spain.
