The freshman movie of novelist-screenwriter Lucia Puenzo, one of the strongest local draws at the Argentine box office this year, is in the running in 13 of the 19 categories at the Dec. 3 event in Buenos Aires.
"XXY" is nommed for film, director (Puenzo), debut feature, adapted screenplay and revelation actress for Ines Efron, among others.
Trailing with a dozen noms, including for film and debut feature, is "La Senal," another hit with spectators.
Ricardo Darin ("Nine Queens"), who co-directed the detective caper with Martin Hodara, is in contention for lead actor and Julieta Diaz ("Derecho de familia") in his counterpart role.
Esteban Sapir's sci-fi fantasy "La Antena" (The Aerial) snared eight noms including for film and director, while Juan Taratuto's romantic comedy "Quien dice que es facil" (Who Says It's Easy), another crowd pleaser, scooped seven including film, director and lead actors.
This will be the second ceremony held by the 250-member academy, which was reformed in 2004 following its disbanding by a military government in 1955. It is associated with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood.
