Kirshner, who will mark his fourth stint as DNC producer, will be paired with veteran Dem party strategist Mark Squier.
"Together, Kirshner and Squier will ... make this convention as inclusive, accessible and engaging as possible using new technology and other creative means," the Democratic National Convention Committee said in a statement Monday. "As executive producers, the pair will be responsible for the overall look and execution of the convention program including the design, staging, lighting, audio and entertainment."
DNCC chief exec Leah D. Daughtry was highly enthusiastic about the Kirshner-Squier combo.
"Pairing Ricky's unparalleled production experience with Mark's strategic political insight will make an unbeatable team," Daughtry said.
Kirshner emphasized how important the conventions are for conveying the broad themes and political messages that Dems are trying to get across to voters.
"It's our job to make sure the millions of people watching from home and inside the (convention) are informed, entertained and inspired by this four-day celebration," Kirshner said.
According to the DNC, Kirshner has produced television specials, as well as sporting and political events over the past 20 years. Earlier this year he produced the Super Bowl halftime show, featuring rocker Prince. Also this year he snagged his most recent Emmy for producing the 2006 Tony Awards.
