Soap is produced for the South African Broadcasting Corp., which also scored seven wins for its drama, "When We Were Black," including TV helmer for Khalo Matabane.
South African/U.K. co-production "Goodbye Bafana," from helmer Bille August, won feature. John Barker picked up film director honors for "Bunny Chow."
Local comedy king Leon Schuster, who is despisedby critics but loved by filmgoers, finally received industry recognition with an actor Golden Horn for "Mama Jack." Actress prize was won by Pauline Malefane for her role in Mark Dornford May's "Son of Man."
The awards were launched last year, backed by the National Film and Video Foundation, and will be held annually. The event was broadcast by pubcaster channel SABC2.
