These are the first acquisitions since the Montreal-based company was taken over by Entertainment One, the Toronto-based distrib that is in the midst of a major expansion into theatrical.
"Honeydripper" stars Danny Glover and Lisa Gay Hamilton in a story set in 1950s Alabama about a guitarist with a flair for the new rock'n'roll.
Seville also acquired Gallic pics, underlining that it is not giving up its commitment to Euro arthouse films.
These include thesp-turned-helmer Martin Provost's "Seraphine," a biopic based on the life of French painter Seraphine de Senlis, starring Yolande Moreau and Ulrich Tukur ("The Lives of Others"); "Faut que ca dance!" from helmer Noemie Lvovsky, starring Sabine Azema, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi; Canadian rights to "Intimate Enemies," with a cast including Benoit Magimel and Albert Dupontel; and musical "Parlez-moi de la pluie," directed by Agnes Jaoui and starring Jaoui, Jean-Pierre Bacri and Jamel Debbouze.
"Ceux qui restent," the first film directed by actress Anne Le Ny, will have its North American preem at the Cinemania Festival, dedicated to French-language cinema, in Montreal on Saturday.
None of these pics will be in theaters in Canada before spring.
