After Dark, Lionsgate nab 'Mulberry'

After Dark Films and Lionsgate have acquired Jim Mickle's horror film 'Mulberry Street.'

After Dark Films and Lionsgate have acquired "Mulberry Street," a horror pic that screened at the Tribeca Film Festival.

It will roll out on more than 300 screens on Nov. 9 as part of After Dark Horrorfest, a commercial festival that runs through Nov. 18. Exhib partners include AMC, Regal and Cinemark.

Lionsgate will handle homevid.

"Mulberry" follows tenants of a Gotham building in summertime as they uncover a sickness that's turning residents into rat zombies.

Belladonna Prods., the company behind "Mulberry" as well as indie titles "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" and "Transamerica," has also optioned cult favorite author Joe R. Lansdale's suspense novel "Cold in July" for "Mulberry" helmer Jim Mickle to direct and adapt with "Mulberry" co-writer Nick Damici.
