Sales volumes were already up by 5.7% in the first six months of the year, compared with 3% in the same period of 2006.
According to DEG, the bumper summer box office should translate to even stronger DVD sales of the same movies toward the end of the year.
Speaking on behalf of DEG, Warner Home Video senior VP Yves Caillaud commented, “It is hugely promising to see such healthy figures for the year so far, and we are confident that 2007 will finish on a high. Looking at the impressive list of box office titles that will be coming to the DVD market this quarter, we are able to make very positive, full-year predictions of substantial year-on-year growth.”
Industry analyst Screen Digest estimates that the market for DVD hardware is also still growing in Europe, with 31.5 million DVD players and recorders sold in 2007, 3.4% more than in 2006.
