Sands has worked on nearly 200 films as a sound mixer, winning a previous CAS award for sound mixing on 1994's "Forrest Gump." He has also worked on numerous jazz recordings including albums by Count Basie, Oscar Peterson and Sarah Vaughn.
Previous winners of the CAS Career Achievement Award include Ray Dolby, Robert Altman, Ed Greene and Walter Murch. Ceremony will take place Feb. 16 at the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
