HBO makes library deal with Disney

Network to air movies beginning January 2009

HBO has engineered a library deal with Disney/ABC Domestic TV for 100 theatricals, including "Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon," "Enemy of the State" and "The Sixth Sense."

The movies will begin flowing to HBO and its various multiplex networks in January 2009. The titles become available to HBO after they complete their second pay window on Starz, which has the exclusive paycable rights as part of a theatrical-output deal with Disney.

The deal is not unusual in that pay-TV networks buy library product from all of the major studios to keep their spinoff networks and their on-demand platforms stuffed with movies.

Other titles in the Disney-HBO deal include "Pulp Fiction," "Shakespeare in Love," the three "Scream" movies, "George of the Jungle" and "The Mighty Ducks."
