GDH takes live-action route

'Robo' to hit theaters on Nov. 23

TOKYO -- Toon house GDH will release its first live-action theatrical pic, "Robo Rock" in 40 theaters nationwide Nov. 23.

Previously titled "Long Armed Monkeys," the pic is a fantasy/adventure yarn about an odd-job man who is living a slacker life until he gets an unusual assignment: voice activate a giant robot that his employer, an odd-ball bureaucrat, is convinced can save the Earth from space aliens.

Taikan Suga helms from his own original story, while Shun Shioya, Yuuichirou Nakayama, Minami, Shoichi Honda and Ken Ayugai star.

Genero studio, GDH's VFX production arm, made the pic using both live-action and full CG, based in its extensive experience in toon production. In addition to GDH, the pic's production consortium includes digital contents producer mobcast, ad shop Hakuhodo DY Media Partners and pic producer Media Factory.
