Michel Shane and Anthony Romano, principals at Los Angeles-based Handpicked, will act as executive producers for the slate with a range of budgets between $5 million and $40 million.
Ginepri managing partner S.K. Dean told Daily Variety the venture is aiming at financing producer-driven projects and plans to announce a distribution deal by the end of the year. "We feel that there's a great opportunity to finance outside the studio system," he added.
Shane said the first five pics from the first slate will be announced early next year. Ginepri is also planning to fund another three slates, with both sides actively involved with financial structuring and evaluating distribution avenues.
"We will all be very hands on," Shane said.
Handpicked has been involved in financing "I Robot," "Catch Me If You Can" and "Northfork." The company is currently working on "Buddha," penned by David Ward and produced by B.K. Modi's M-Global Films.
