The three-way battle among young dramas on Friday, meanwhile, looks to be a much closer affair, after ABC's "Women's Murder Club" fell back one week after a promising premiere. That coincided with rises by fellow frosh "Moonlight" on CBS and soph "Friday Night Lights" on NBC.
Looking at Thursday, "Viva Laughlin" settled for a 2.3/6 in 18-49 and 8.39 million viewers overall, despite airing behind "CSI" (6.5/15 in 18-49, 21.22m). Worse yet, it fell to a 1.9/5 in the demo in its second half-hour, leaving the net in fourth place.
Show moved to its regular 8 p.m. Sunday slot last night.
With both "Viva" and ABC's struggling "Big Shots" (3.0/8 in 18-49, 7.54m) weak in the hour, NBC's "ER" was on the rise (4.0/11, 10.12m).
ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" (7.3/17 in 18-49, 18.04m) remained the night's top show in 18-49, while "CSI" still drew the most viewers overall. Biggest story of the 9 o'clock hour, though, continues to be NBC's improved standing with "The Office" (4.5/11, 8.61m), whose final hourlong seg to start the season did 45% better in the demo than the net fared a year ago with "Deal or No Deal."
On Friday, "Women's Murder Club" (prelim 2.0/6 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) was down about 20% week to week, finishing a close second in the demo to "Moonlight" (prelim 2.1/7 in 18-49, 7.8 million) but just a tick ahead of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" (prelim 1.9/6, 5.5 million). It did again lead its timeslot in total viewers.
Of the three dramas, Eye's "Moonlight" had the best lead-in, courtesy of 8 o'clock leader "Ghost Whisperer" (prelim 2.4/9 in 18-49, 8.9 million), while "Murder Club" had to again build on its modestly rated "20/20" lead-in (prelim 1.7/6, 6.8 million).
Fox's two-hour debut of reality show "Next Great American Band" struggled to a 1.5/5 in 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers, finishing behind wrestling on CW in its second hour but growing with each half-hour. Still, that's no worse than the net had been faring on the night with entertainment programming this fall.
