Cave, who is Down Under touring with his new outfit Grinderman, came to fame with punk-influenced band the Birthday Party before forging a successful 20-year career with the Bad Seeds. Hits include "Red Right Hand," "The Ship Song" and "Into My Arms."
He composed music for "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and "Shrek 2."
Cave has also penned two feature films: 1988's "Ghosts ... of the Civil Dead" and 2005's "The Proposition."
Cave, 50, is considered one of the country's finest songwriters but has never won an Aria Award until this Hall of Fame honor.
He joins Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, Radio Birdman, Brian Cadd, Hoodoo Gurus, Marcia Hines and Frank Ifield, who were inducted at the Aria Hall of Fame event in July.
