Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff will write the script and Temple Hill Entertainment's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce.
Shortly after Jeffrey "Toz" Toczylowski died in 2005 after falling from a helicopter, his friends received an email message from him that opened with this line: "If you are getting this email, it means that I have passed away. No, it's not a sick Toz joke, but a letter I wanted to write in case this happened."
The email, forwarded at the soldier's request by a Green Beret pal, invited each recipient to a party that Toz had planned in advance (and set aside $100,000 to fund) to celebrate his life.
"In a world where hopelessness and cynicism rule, this family found healing through celebration, and their story reminds us of the heroism and patriotism that mark the best this country has to offer," Godfrey said.
Burnstein and Schiff, who wrote "The Richest Man in the World" for Shady Acres and Universal and "The Quarterback's Tale" for Marc Platt and MGM, will be co-producers.
