Steve Pink to rewrite 'Mall Cop'

Columbia taps 'Fidelity' writer for James comedy

Steve Pink has been tapped to pen a draft of the Kevin James starrer "Mall Cop" for Columbia Pictures and Happy Madison Prods.

Studio is eyeing a spring start date in the hopes that the comedy can be a pre-strike production.

Story centers on a mild-mannered security guard thrust into action when his mall is taken over by highly organized thieves.

Col is out to directors.

James, who penned an earlier draft with Nick Bakay, will produce alongside Jeff Sussman and Todd Garner.

Pink, whose writing credits include "Grosse Pointe Blank" and "High Fidelity," most recently directed "Accepted."
