Michell rises for 'Morning'

Paramount taps Director for Big Apple comedy

Roger Michell has signed on to direct the Big Apple-set comedy "Morning Glory" for Paramount.

Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") is penning the screenplay, which centers on a struggling female news producer and the iconic, temperamental anchorman she recruits to revive a failing network morning show.

Bad Robot's J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing. Sherryl Clark exec produces.

The studio is eyeing a March start date.

Since inking a five-year pact with the studio, Abrams has set up a number of projects that he will produce through his Bad Robot banner, including the Matt Reeves-helmed monster pic "Cloverfield" and "Voices," with Clay Tarver attached to direct.

Michell, whose credits include the Peter O'Toole starrer "Venus" and the romantic comedy "Notting Hill," is attached to helm thriller "The Rip" for Universal Pictures and Working Title Films.

McKenna penned Fox 2000's upcoming romantic comedy "27 Dresses," starring Katherine Heigl, and has several projects in development at various studios.
