On Nov. 27, the IFP's 17th annual Gotham Awards ceremony will toast Michael Bloomberg for spearheading his "Made in NY" program, which offers tax and marketing credits to film and TV productions in the city.
Ira Deutchman, chairman of the IFP board of directors, played down the recent outcry over the proposed regs from the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting.
"It was all, I think, a misunderstanding," he said. Deutchman went on to praise the Mayor's Office's close attention to their constituency's concerns: "Once they figured out exactly what it was going to cause, they immediately moved to change it, which is another feather in their cap."
Deutchman also noted that the policies championed by Bloomberg and the many incentives from his office "had really begun to have a major impact in a positive way on the city and on independent film."
The Gotham awards, which have become increasingly competitive in recent years, will also honor thesp Javier Bardem, helmer Mira Nair, and IFC prexy Jonathan Sehring.
