Robbins led Atlanta-based Cox for 20 years, during which time it became one of the nation's biggest cable operators. The company's broadband network paved the way to enter the high-speed Internet and telephone businesses.
Robbins joined Cox as vice president in 1983 in New York. He became president of the company in 1985 and CEO in 1995, when the company went public. He retired in 2005. Prior to joining Cox, he was Sr. VP of operations for Viacom Communications.
He is survived by his wife, Debby; three daughters; a brother and a sister.
