Columbia ups Kadin to senior VP

Respected comedy executive promoted

Jonathan Kadin has been upped to senior veep of production at Columbia Pictures.

A studio employee for seven years, Kadin is known as one of the studio's go-to comedy execs after shepherding such laffers as "Superbad" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

Col presidents of production Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach hailed Kadin, a onetime assistant to Jimmy Miller, as having "one of the best ears for comedy in the business." They added, "He is respected across the board by filmmakers, talent, agents, writers and his colleagues at the studio."

He will continue to report to Belgrad and Tolmach.

Kadin joined Columbia as a creative executive and was promoted to director of development in 2003. He was upped to veep in 2005. He is currently overseeing development of four films: "Step Brothers," which reunites "Talladega Nights" stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly; "Pineapple Express," starring Seth Rogen and James Franco; the Reilly vehicle "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"; and "Year One," starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, which begins shooting in January.
