'Outsourced' works at NBC

Ken Kwapis to develop TV comedy

Indie feature "Outsourced" is being developed into a TV comedy by helmer Ken Kwapis ("The Office").

NBC has made a premium script commitment to the half-hour, with Kwapis attached to direct a pilot if one is greenlit. George Wing ("50 First Dates") and John Jeffcoat, who wrote the feature, are set to adapt their work for TV.

Like the movie, "Outsourced" will revolve around a customer service manager from Seattle who is sent to India to train a ragtag group of call-center employees.

Universal Media Studios is producing the TV take in association with In Cahoots, the production banner headed by Kwapis and Alexandra Beattie. Kwapis, Beattie, Wing and Jeffcoat will exec produce, along with Tom Gorai and David Skinner, who produced the original pic via their ShadowCatcher Entertainment banner.

Kwapis, whose recent feature credits include "License to Wed" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," is helming the ensemble laffer "He's Just Not That Into You" for New Line.

He directed the pilot of "The Office," along with last season's "Gay Witch Hunt" seg, earning an Emmy nom for the latter. His other TV credits include "Malcolm in the Middle," "The Bernie Mac Show" and "The Larry Sanders Show."
