U.S.-based Alchemy Television is distributing the project globally and is already talking to American networks about acquiring the two-parter, which comes from Kudos Film and Television and Seven24 Films. BBC2 and Global Television will air it in Blighty and Canada, respectively.
In addition to Whitford and Campbell, Brit thesp Rupert Penry-Jones ("Casanova") is set to star in "Burn Up." He'll play the head of a fictional oil company whose life comes apart as he's pulled into a global game of intrigue. Campbell will play an oil company staffer who's secretly working with environmentalists, while Whitford will appear as an oil industry lobbyist.
Alchemy CEO Carrie Stein said she thinks the environmental theme will resonate with viewers. "Simon Beaufoy has constantly updated his research so our script is as current and realistic as today's front-page news," she said.
Project is one of several minis Alchemy has in production, including "Diamonds" and "Iron Road." Most recently, Alchemy teamed with Sony for TNT's "The Company."
