Lampoon is financing the film and producing with Dan Farah and Jason Burinescu. Burinescu wrote the script, and a director will be named shortly.
Pic spoofs the sword-and-sandal epics "300," "Troy," "Gladiator" and "Braveheart," and Dillon plays the bumbling Spartan general who fails upward in his quest for greatness.
Fans of "Entourage" will chuckle at Dillon's emergence as a period action hero, since his Johnny "Drama" Chase character found his early glory days starring in a short-lived cult series called "Viking Quest." Drama's frequent cries of his signature line "Victory!" are often replicated on ESPN's "SportsCenter" broadcasts, among other places.
"Kevin is perfect for this role," said Lampoon's Justin Kanew.
"National Lampoon's 301" is the fifth film headed for production by the reconstituted humor label. "National Lampoon's Bagboy" and "National Lampoon's Ratko" were recently completed and will be released theatrically through National Lampoon Distribution. Comedy Central has secured first broadcast rights for the films.
"National Lampoon Presents the Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell" debuts Oct. 19, and "National Lampoon Presents Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo" opens Nov. 9.
