Sander will serve a three-year term as chairman of the board governing the performing rights org that reps more than 350,000 songwriters, composers and publishers. He succeeds Cecil Walker, who continues to serve on BMI's board as presiding director.
Sander has been a member of BMI's board since 2002, serving during the 2006-07 term as vice chairman. Sander retired from Dallas-based TV station and newspaper owner Belo Corp. last year after nearly a decade as a senior exec overseeing its station operations; he continues as a senior adviser to the company.
Sander is also joint chairman of the National Assn. of Broadcasters trade org.
