Based on a short story by Canadian novelist Alice Munro about a couple, played by Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent, facing Alzheimer’s, pic also took the feature editing nod.
Jerry Ciccoritti’s “Dragon Boys” received the award for television movie or miniseries, and Sturla Gunnarsson drew director kudos for “Above and Beyond,” which also received a statuette for picture editing.
Stephen Surjik took TV series director for “Intelligence,” episode 311, “Not a Nice Boy.”
“Slings & Arrows,” directed by Peter Wellington, drew the top drama prize as well as a picture editing nod; comedy kudos went to ratings darling “Corner Gas” for episode “Gopher It,” directed by David Storey, while the nod for family TV movie or mini went to “Me and Luke,” directed by Eleanor Lindo.
In addition, “Instant Star” took the family TV series prize, while Rob Stewart’s “Sharkwater” drew top doc.
Hyphenate Paul Almond received a lifetime achievement nod, and veteran producer Marilyn Stonehouse received the Don Haldane Distinguished Service Award.
