Pusan to highlight 3-D cinema growth

Section is part of the fest's Bifcom locations and facilities market (Oct. 8-11) put together by the Busan Film Commission and includes a variety of events under the slogan "Digital Steps to Film Production in 3 Dimensions!"
The 3-D event kicks off with a presentation by companies including the U.S.' In-Three, which will showcase a kit for converting films shot in 2-D films to 3-D, and Japan's Visual Communication. Latter will demo specialized cinematography techniques and technology for originating movies in 3-D.
"While the traditional film industry is now being threatened by HD home entertainment and illegal piracy, the 3-D cinema market is a potential blue ocean," said Bifcom exec Lee Hyung-seok. He cited the success of such movies as "Polar Express 3-D," "Superman Returns," "Chicken Little" and "Monster House."
Event will also include a Bifcom seminar (Oct. 9), set to include forecasts for the 3-D movie market, an examination of 3-D film production costs and prospects for the 3-D theater biz.
