Universal calls on 'Dr. Sensitive'

New writer's spec picked up by studio

Universal Pictures has acquired first-time scribe Ben Frahm's spec "Dr. Sensitive" for Shady Acres to produce as a potential directing vehicle for Tom Shadyac.

Frahm's deal is pegged at $250,000 against $500,000.

The comedy centers on the doctor with the world's worst bedside manner who undergoes a transformative experience that makes him overly empathetic.

Shadyac and Michael Bostick are producing alongside Underground Films' Nick Osborne. Trevor Engelson is executive producing.

William Lowery will serve as co-producer.

Underground Films, which manages Frahm, had been developing the script for more than a year. Prior to the sale, Frahm was a middle school teacher for austic children.

Shady Acres, which has a first-look deal at Uni, produced "Evan Almighty" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" for the studio.
