Fiennes will play Bob, a married man with two sons who undergoes the metamorphosis to eventually become a woman. Wagner will play Bob's father, Scotch, who shares a gynecological practice with his son; Danner is Bunny, Bob's mother.
FX and Murphy are still casting the wife and children roles. Production will begin at the end of October.
Cabler greenlit the pilot episode to the Murphy project -- formerly known as "4 oz.," a reference to the average weight of a penis -- as well as three additional scripts. Twentieth Century Fox TV is producing as part of the recent mega-deal shared by FX, 20th and Fox (where the scribe has a woman-centric drama in the works).
Project would rep Fiennes' first regular TV series gig. Thesp's credits include the features "Elizabeth," "Enemy at the Gates" and "Running With Scissors."
Wagner, whose hefty TV credits are led by "Hart to Hart," most recently appeared in "Hustle." And Danner's recent gigs include "Huff" and "Will & Grace."
Murphy co-created the project with scribe Brad Falchuk; Murphy exec produces with Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner.
