AFI festival to close with 'Cholera'

'Lions for Lambs' will open event on Nov. 1

The AFI Los Angeles Film Festival has selected "Love in the Time of Cholera" as its closing-night film on Nov. 11 at the ArcLight in Hollywood.

"Cholera," produced by New Line and Stone Village, stars Javier Bardem, Benjamin Bratt and Catalina Sandino Moreno in the story of a love triangle over five decades from 1880 to 1930. Mike Newell directed Ronald Harwood's adaptation of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel.

The festival's closing-night gala is sponsored by Tu Ciudad magazine and Farmers Insurance.

UA's "Lions for Lambs" was previously announced as the opening-night film, screening on Nov. 1.
