"Truth" centers on a powerful agency in contemporary Chicago. McCormack will play Mason McGuire, an exec who is better at the corporate side of the biz but is unexpectedly promoted to creative director.
Cavanagh is cast as Conner, described as McGuire's more emotional and creative counterpart.
Show aims to create "commercials-within-the-show" that would fit with the narrative but also offer opportunities for a new kind of product placement (Daily Variety, Aug. 10).
Casting marks the second go-round for McCormack at Turner. Former "Will & Grace" star was involved as a producer on the comedy pilot "Imperfect Union" for TBS, which the net ultimately passed on. McCormack is also set to start in A&E's miniseries remake of "The Andromeda Strain."
Cavanagh, who toplined the NBC drama "Ed" and had a recurring role on the net's "Scrubs," is also in recent Toronto Film Fest pic "Breakfast With Scot."
Pilot reps TNT's bid to increase its slate of dramatic originals, which include "The Closer" and "Saving Grace."
Shephard/Robin is producing "Truth" for Warner Horizon, with Michael Robin directing the pilot. "Closer" vets Hunt Baldwin and John Covenyare attached to write.
