Mark Burnett Prods. is teaming with Reveille ("The Biggest Loser") on the project, which has been given an eight-episode midseason order by the Peacock. Premise of the game has fathers and their families facing off against other families in a series of stunt-driven challenges.
"Dad" will be Burnett's third primetime quizzer. In addition to "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader," producer recently set up the truth-or-consequences gameshow "Amnesia" at NBC.
"Every kid thinks their dad is the best, and this series is designed to let them see who really is top dog on the block," said NBC alternative chief Craig Plestis.
"Dad" will be a joint production of Reveille, Mark Burnett Prods. and Hotchkiss Industries. Burnett, Roy Bank, Mark Koops, Howard Owens and Jon Hotchkiss ("Penn & Teller: Bullshit!") are exec producers.
Burnett said the skein will mix "the family fun and kid empowerment of '5th Grader' with the universally relatable concept of bragging that your dad is best." Owens, meanwhile, said the skein will have a strong play-along factor and solid family-friendly appeal.
Players will compete for various prizes during the course of each episode, with a cash sum serving as the grand prize.
