Move means "The Biggest Loser" -- currently in its fourth edition -- will return sometime midseason.
NBC has ordered 14 episodes of the next edition, which comes with a twist: For the first time, competitors will be grouped into teams.
"Biggest Loser" has been a reliable performer for NBC, launching its fourth cycle on Sept. 11 with a 3.1 rating/9 share among adults 18-49, giving it the top numbers for the night; the second seg last week popped up to a 3.4/9.
" 'The Biggest Loser' continues to be a top performer and important franchise for NBC," said Craig Plestis, the net's exec VP of alternative programming, development and specials.
Reveille LLC, 25/7 Prods. and 3 Ball Prods. are behind the show, which follows overweight contestants as they diet and exercise in order to lose the most weight -- and win $250,000. Alison Sweeney is the show's new host.
Exec producers include Ben Silverman, Dave Broome, JD Roth, Todd Nelson and Mark Koops.
