The old showbiz credo is not lost on BBC toppers as it emerged that its flagship tyke show, the relentlessly upbeat "Blue Peter," has again been deceiving auds.
The team behind "Blue Peter," once feted as wholesome, nurturing TV for Blighty's youngsters, has admitted it misled viewers by ignoring the results of an audience vote to name the show's pet cat.
Audiences wanted the feline to be called Cookie, but the show's producers decided the pet puss should be called Socks because it was felt to be a more suitable name.
Earlier this year Blighty's regulators levied the first fine in the BBC's history -- a cool $100,000 -- after "Blue Peter" was caught rigging the results of a phone-in contest, where viewers called a toll number.
Hapless Beeb topper Mark Thompson was forced to apologize for this latest "editorial lapse" -- and a new kitten will be duly christened Cookie.
