'Donsol' is Philippines Oscar entry

Alix-directed film has won numerous awards

HONG KONG -- "Donsol" has been selected to represent the Philippines in the foreign film category for the upcoming Oscars.

Helmed by Adolfo Alix, Jr., pic has won a slew of awards on the festival circuit, including prizes at Fort Lauderdale, Asian Marine fest and Cinemalaya independent film fest. Starring Sid Lucero and Angel Aquino, film focuses on two lonely people who finds refuge in Donsol, a small fishing town and a popular tourist destination for whale shark spotting.

The announcement was made by the Film Academy of the Philippines.
