New Line assigns 'Agent'

Macintyre adaptation to be produced by Hanks

In a high-six figure deal, New Line won an auction for screen rights to the just published Ben Macintyre book "Agent Zigzag: True Wartime Story of Love and Deception."

Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce.

Published by Bloomsbury in the U.K. earlier this year, the book was just released in the U.S. by Harmony.

It's the true story of Edward Arnold Chapman, a career criminal who spied on the Germans for the British in WWII.

New Line prevailed in a bidding battle against sister studio Warner Bros. CAA repped the book.
