Paramount Vantage inks 'Coach'

NY Times story to star Trevor Moore

Paramount Vantage has acquired the rights to the New York Times story "Hey Coach, Do You Need a Timeout?" by Warren St. John.

Project is being developed as a comedic starring vehicle for Trevor Moore.

Story centers on college fraternity brothers who decide to get together and coach a peewee football team but find themselves overwhelmed by the competitive nature of the league. Matt and Billy Eddy have been tapped to write the screenplay.

Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce alongside 3 Arts' Tom Lassally. St. John will exec produce.

Bowen said he was quick to respond to St. John's story. "The world of competitive youth football is something that we were thinking could be hilarious to explore," he said.

Jim Miller and Bowen brought the material into Temple Hill.

Hollywood purchase is the second for a Times story penned by St. John. Universal Pictures is developing "The Fugees," which centered on a Jordan-born soccer coach who guided a team of refugees from war-torn countries.
